President Bola Tinubu’s nominee for the position of Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, Prof. Joash Amupitan (SAN), appeared before the Senate on Thursday for screening.
Amupitan arrived at the National Assembly around 12:50 p.m., accompanied by Kogi State Governor Ahmed Ododo and other dignitaries. He was led into the chamber by Senator Abubakar Lado, the presidential aide on National Assembly Matters (Senate).
Senate President Godswill Akpabio welcomed Amupitan, his family members, and other guests to the Red Chamber before outlining the procedure for the screening. The session commenced at about 12:55 p.m., with Amupitan expected to present his credentials and respond to questions from lawmakers before his possible confirmation as the next INEC chairman.
