Wike Backs Tinubu Projects, Urges Abuja Residents to Pay Taxes

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has thrown his full support behind President Bola Tinubu’s infrastructure agenda, saying the ongoing wave of construction across Abuja reflects the president’s vision for a modern and competitive capital city.

Speaking at the flag-off of the Mohammed Isa Road Extension in Asokoro on Monday, Wike said the spate of project inaugurations across the city was proof that the government was not just making promises but taking visible action. The event marked the tenth day in a row of commissioning new projects under his watch.

Wike shared that one of the government’s critics had privately approached him to request the same project now being launched. He described the encounter as ironic, noting that even those who often criticize the government still benefit from its development efforts.

The minister said the progress in the FCT cannot be separated from President Tinubu’s leadership, stressing that the capital’s transformation was part of the president’s directive to make Abuja compete with major cities around the world. He added that the ongoing projects were also creating thousands of jobs for young people through daily construction activities.

Wike also urged residents to play their part by paying their taxes regularly. He likened public infrastructure to a meal that only tastes good when money is available to buy the right ingredients, saying that tax revenue remains the lifeblood of every development project.

According to him, no amount of planning can succeed without proper funding. He said timely tax payments would ensure continued work on roads, drainages, streetlights, and other amenities needed to improve living standards in the city.

The minister assured residents that the development drive would go beyond road construction. He said plans were underway to rehabilitate about 40 schools and launch new projects in the health sector, signaling that the administration’s focus on infrastructure would touch every part of the FCT.
