Anambra Police Urge Motorists To Follow Tinted Glass Rules Amid Court Suspension

The Anambra State Police Command has called on motorists to comply with the ongoing enforcement of tinted glass regulations, saying the exercise is meant to enhance public safety and not to penalize drivers.

Police spokesperson, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, said the enforcement is part of efforts to curb crime in the state. He explained that unauthorised tinted glasses often aid criminals in concealing their identity, evading security checks, and committing offences such as robbery, kidnapping, and assault.

Ikenga noted that the regulation will boost visibility for law enforcement, making it easier to identify offenders and protect residents. He added that the Police Commissioner, CP Ikioye Orutugu, has appealed for cooperation from the public to ensure smooth enforcement across the state.

According to Orutugu, the initiative is a strategic move aimed at strengthening security and keeping Anambra safe for residents and visitors. He also advised motorists using tinted vehicles to register them properly through the official online portal to avoid unnecessary confrontations with security operatives.

However, a Federal High Court sitting in Warri, Delta State, recently issued an interim order suspending the enforcement of tinted glass permits nationwide. The case, filed by human rights lawyer John Akpokpo-Martins, is still awaiting a full hearing.

Despite the court’s decision, Force spokesperson Benjamin Hundeyin stated that the police had not yet received any official communication regarding the suspension and would continue with enforcement until further notice.

The command reiterated that the measure is part of broader security reforms to deter criminal activities and maintain peace across Anambra State.
