South West Will Not Reward Failure In 2027 Olawepo Hashim Group Says

The South West chapter of the Gbenga Hashim Solidarity Movement has rejected calls for the region to back President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 election, saying the people will not endorse what it described as economic collapse and hardship.

The group’s coordinator, Alhaji Abass Olaniyi, responded to a recent appeal by Reno Omokri, who urged the South West and the North to rally behind Tinubu. Omokri had likened the call to the North’s decision to support former President Muhammadu Buhari in 2019 despite his shortcomings.

Olaniyi said Omokri’s position amounted to political manipulation, stressing that leadership should be measured by competence and results, not ethnic loyalty or sentiment. He argued that the economic record under the APC government had been disastrous, with Nigeria’s GDP shrinking from over $570 billion in 2014 to below $300 billion today, alongside rising inflation, unemployment, and poverty.

He dismissed claims of economic growth under Tinubu as misleading, noting that ordinary Nigerians continue to suffer hunger and cannot afford basic needs. According to him, “Nigerians don’t eat GDP figures, they eat food, and food has become unaffordable.”

Olaniyi positioned Dr. Gbenga Olawepo Hashim as a credible alternative for the South West, describing him as a leader with vision, global experience, and economic knowledge capable of uniting the North and South on fairness and competence.

He added that across states in the region, conversations are increasingly shifting towards Hashim as a fresh option for 2027, while urging Northern leaders to resist divisive appeals and join forces with progressive platforms determined to rescue Nigeria from misrule.

The group maintained that 2027 would be a decisive year for the country, insisting that Nigerians must choose capable leadership over sentiment, with the South West prepared to lead the charge for change.
