Ex Senator Abbo Denies Rape Allegation Involving Teenager

Former Adamawa North senator Ishaku Elisha Abbo has dismissed reports accusing him of raping a 13 year old schoolgirl.

The story, which spread on Thursday, claimed he was arrested by police over the alleged assault that took place on June 29, 2025.

Abbo, who served in the ninth and part of the tenth senate, described the allegation as false and politically motivated. He said he was at his home in Katampe extension, Abuja, on the date in question and had no encounter with the police.

He linked the report to political rivals he believes are targeting him to damage his reputation. According to him, the only recent matter he reported to the police involved a woman who allegedly tried to extort him for ₦5 million.

The family of the girl has maintained its accusation, alleging that the former senator attempted to silence them by sending money to the child’s father. They also claimed that Aishatu Binani, the 2023 Adamawa governorship candidate, intervened to persuade them not to pursue the case further.

The development adds to past controversies surrounding Abbo. In 2019, a viral video showed him physically assaulting a woman at a shop in Abuja. He was later accused of trying to blackmail a married woman with a sex tape, a claim that further damaged his public image.

The police have not released an official statement on the fresh allegation, leaving the case surrounded by uncertainty as both sides trade accusations.
