Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has denied reports suggesting he plans to withdraw his 2027 presidential ambition in favour of another aspirant.

The claims followed an interview he granted to BBC Hausa Service, where he was reported to have indicated readiness to step aside for a younger and more acceptable candidate under the coalition-backed African Democratic Congress.

In a statement on Thursday, his Media Adviser, Paul Ibe, described the reports as a misrepresentation, insisting that neither the video nor transcript of the interview suggested such intention.

“At no point did the former Vice President expressly state, suggest, or even imply that he intends to step down for anyone,” the statement read.
According to him, Atiku only noted that young politicians and other aspirants are free to contest, and that he would support any candidate who emerges through a competitive primary.
The statement cautioned against twisting his remarks, stressing that the insinuations circulating in the media do not reflect what Atiku actually said.
