Speaking on Saturday at the Ohanivo 2025 New Yam Festival in Onicha, Ebonyi State, Umahi said years of political neglect had reshaped the region’s loyalties. He stressed that the South East, particularly Ebonyi, now aligns with Tinubu, whom he credited with giving the people a sense of belonging.

Umahi, a former governor of Ebonyi, argued that the president’s goodwill toward the region has shifted the political mood. According to him, the people would reciprocate by backing Tinubu’s re-election bid when Nigerians go to the polls in 2027.

The minister’s remarks come against the backdrop of Peter Obi’s rising influence, especially among young Nigerians, which has positioned the OBIdient Movement as a force in national politics. But Umahi maintained that the movement holds little sway in his home state.

He assured that Ebonyi and the wider South East would stand with the president in the next election, framing the decision as a reward for inclusiveness and political recognition.
