The Independent National Electoral Commission has published the final list of candidates contesting the 2026 Federal Capital Territory Area Council elections.
A total of 17 candidates made the list for the poll scheduled to hold on February 12, 2026.
The announcement was made in Abuja by INEC’s National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, Sam Olumekun. He explained that the publication came after the legal window for substitution or withdrawal of candidates closed.
Earlier in August, INEC had released the personal details of candidates who emerged from the primaries conducted by political parties. By the deadline of August 11, 17 parties had successfully submitted their nominees to the commission.
With the final list now out, no candidate can be replaced or withdrawn, except in the event of death before election day, as provided by the Electoral Act.
INEC confirmed that the list includes the names, political parties, ages, genders, and academic qualifications of all candidates. These details have been uploaded to the commission’s website and shared on its social media platforms for public access.
The release of the final list sets the stage for parties and candidates to intensify preparations ahead of the February council poll in the FCT.
