PDP Warns INEC Over 2027 Elections

The Peoples Democratic Party has issued a strong warning to the Independent National Electoral Commission ahead of the 2027 general elections, insisting that electronic transmission of results must be fully applied.

The party stressed that Nigerians will not accept excuses or failures that could undermine the credibility of the vote.

The warning comes as memories of the 2023 presidential election linger, when INEC reported glitches that prevented real-time transmission of results from polling units. That development raised doubts over transparency and triggered heated debates about whether technology was deliberately sidelined to influence outcomes.

At a press briefing in Abuja, the PDP declared that Nigerians expect INEC to guarantee a process where every vote is counted without delay or manipulation. The opposition party argued that the electoral commission already has the necessary systems in place, pointing to the smooth functioning of electronic payment services across the country as proof that excuses about failures are no longer acceptable.

The party also turned its attention to the ruling All Progressives Congress, accusing it of neglecting governance and focusing on early political campaigns. According to the PDP, the ruling party is more interested in chasing endorsements and creating an image of popularity while ordinary Nigerians continue to struggle with rising prices, hunger, and economic hardship.

The PDP said that recent policies, such as the proposed five per cent tax on petroleum imports, have worsened living conditions and placed an additional burden on citizens. It argued that true endorsement should come from the impact of policies on people’s lives, not from political gatherings or public displays.

The African Democratic Congress backed the PDP’s position, calling for strict enforcement of electronic result transmission to restore trust in the electoral system. The ADC maintained that the credibility of elections rests on ensuring that the votes of Nigerians are accurately captured and reflected in the final outcome.

Both opposition parties made it clear that the 2027 elections must be transparent and free from any manipulation. They vowed to resist any attempt to derail the process, insisting that Nigerians deserve an election that reflects their true choices at the polls.
