Former Anambra State governor and 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has announced a temporary break from official activities on medical grounds.

In a statement on Saturday, Obi revealed that he began feeling unwell while on engagements in Enugu and was advised by doctors to rest for a few days.

“Earlier in Enugu, I was not feeling well. I visited the hospital where the doctor gave me some medication and advised me to take a day or two days rest,” he said.

Obi noted that the doctor’s advice would prevent him from attending several scheduled activities within and outside Nigeria this weekend. He apologised for any inconveniences his absence might cause and appealed for the understanding of his supporters and the public.

Before announcing the health-related break, Obi had listed some of his recent engagements, including a visit to Good Hope Specialist Hospital in Isulo, Orumba South Local Government Area of Anambra State. The hospital, currently being acquired by the Aguata Diocese of the Church of Nigeria, received his initial contribution of ₦10 million towards its revitalisation.
He praised the Diocese’s vision to transform the hospital into a full health complex with a School of Nursing, Midwifery, and Health Technology, describing healthcare investment as one of the most meaningful contributions to national development.
Obi also attended a dinner in Owerri hosted by Barrister Nnaemeka Maduagwu in honour of former Kaduna State governor, Nasir El-Rufai.
Despite his active schedule, Obi stressed that his health now comes first and confirmed that he would strictly follow medical guidance before resuming official duties.
