The federal government has announced that Friday, September 5, will be observed as a public holiday in commemoration of this year’s Eid-ul-Maulud, the annual celebration of the birth of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).

The Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, made the declaration in a statement issued by the ministry’s permanent secretary, Magdalene Ajani. He extended greetings to Muslims in Nigeria and across the world on the occasion and urged them to draw inspiration from the prophet’s life.

Tunji-Ojo called on citizens to embrace the values of peace, humility, compassion, tolerance, and love, which he described as essential for building unity and national progress. He encouraged Nigerians, regardless of religious background, to use the celebration to pray for peace, security, and stability across the country.
The minister also appealed to the public to remain law-abiding and alert while supporting government efforts aimed at strengthening national cohesion. He wished the Muslim community a joyful and peaceful Eid-ul-Maulud celebration.
