Former Labour Party vice-presidential candidate, Datti Baba-Ahmed, says Nigeria can only enjoy true leadership when leaders emerge through genuine elections.
Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Tuesday, Baba-Ahmed linked insecurity and instability in the country to flawed electoral processes.
He argued that as long as elections are manipulated, Nigerians will continue to suffer from poor governance and insecurity.
“So long as people steal elections, you will never have security,” he said, adding that those who gained power through questionable means often rely on insecurity, religion, ethnicity, internal party divisions, and heavy use of money to achieve their goals.
He maintained that credible leadership rooted in transparent elections is the only way to end the cycle of violence and political manipulation in the country.
