Two members of the Ondo State House of Assembly have left the Peoples Democratic Party for the All Progressives Congress, altering the political balance in the state legislature.

The lawmakers are Felix Afe, representing Akoko North-West 2, and Tope Agbulu, representing Akoko South-West 2. Their departure was made public during plenary when the Clerk of the House, Benjamin Jayeola, read their letters of resignation.

They explained that internal disputes within the PDP made it impossible for them to continue in the party. Both men said the decision was reached after consultations with their constituents and political allies. They maintained that joining the APC would allow them to serve their people more effectively.

The defection gives the APC a commanding majority in the Assembly with 24 out of 26 members, leaving the PDP with just two seats. This shift strengthens the ruling party’s control and reduces opposition influence in legislative affairs.
Aside from the defections, the Assembly also took up a matter affecting its workforce. Lawmakers called on the state government to implement the Consolidated Legislative Salary Structure for staff of the Assembly. The call came after the Parliamentary Staff Association of Nigeria, Ondo State chapter, issued a 21-day deadline for action on the issue.
The Majority Leader, Olatunji Oshati, described the demand as one that concerns public interest. He noted that the Assembly had taken responsibility to intervene, urging the state executive to respond to the concerns of its staff before the ultimatum runs out.
