The Kaduna State chapter of the Social Democratic Party has rejected claims by former governor Nasir El-Rufai that the party has merged its entire structure into the African Democratic Congress coalition.

In a statement released in Kaduna on Monday, State Chairman Adamu Idris described the claim as false and politically motivated. He said the party remains intact, united, and fully operational across all 23 local government areas of the state.

The party accused the former governor of trying to create confusion for personal political advantage. It noted that his brief association with the SDP only created divisions, and since his departure, the party has regained stability and focus.

El-Rufai, alongside other opposition figures, had announced at the weekend that the SDP in Kaduna had collapsed its structure into the ADC following a strategic coalition meeting in the state capital. The coalition’s Publicity Secretary, Darius Kurah, issued a statement after the meeting, saying the move was aimed at strengthening opposition forces ahead of the 2027 elections.
Idris, however, countered the claim, stressing that those who joined El-Rufai in the meeting were either expelled members or individuals with no authority to speak for the party. He described them as impostors seeking favour from the former governor.
The SDP reassured its members and supporters that it remains committed to democracy and good governance, insisting that no propaganda or political maneuvering will derail its mission. It vowed to continue building itself as a credible alternative platform in Kaduna and across Nigeria.
