The governor said Kano currently has about five million registered voters but must double the figure by the end of the exercise. He described voter cards as powerful tools that allow citizens to freely choose their leaders, urging residents to take advantage of the process.

He assured that the government would support the committee in its work and called for fairness in the exercise, stressing that no eligible citizen should be excluded, regardless of background or religion. He also urged collaboration with the Independent National Electoral Commission and other partners to raise awareness and track the effectiveness of the registration drive.

In his response, Waiya pledged that the committee would work across all local governments to mobilise residents and ensure that every eligible voter is captured in the exercise. The taskforce, he added, would focus on education, sensitisation, and grassroots engagement to meet the 10 million target.
