APC Will Face Rejection In 2027 Says PDP Governors

The Peoples Democratic Party Governors’ Forum has declared that the All Progressives Congress is headed for rejection by Nigerians in the 2027 general election.

The forum described the ruling party as one without vision or direction, warning that its failures would push voters to seek change.

The governors made the statement in a communiqué issued at the end of their seventh meeting held in Gusau, Zamfara State. The session, chaired by Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed, focused on preparations for the PDP National Convention scheduled for November 15, 2025, in Ibadan, Oyo State. The forum urged members to resist distractions from within and outside the party, insisting that unity was key to ensuring a successful convention.

The communiqué noted that the convention would play a vital role in repositioning the PDP as a strong alternative to the APC. The governors also praised party members across the country for their loyalty despite alleged intimidation and pressures aimed at weakening the opposition. They said the resilience of members had kept the PDP rooted at the grassroots and sustained public desire for better governance.

The forum expressed concern about recent political tensions, including defections orchestrated by rival forces, but maintained that such moves would not derail the party. It reaffirmed the resolutions of the PDP’s National Executive Committee, stressing that the November convention must hold as planned.

On electoral matters, the governors condemned the by-election of August 9, 2025, describing it as marred by irregularities, violence, and heavy militarisation. They urged Nigerians to remain vigilant and to defend their votes in future elections to prevent what they described as anti-democratic practices.

The forum also discussed security challenges, commending the Zamfara State government for ongoing efforts to restore peace but raising alarm over continued killings in Katsina, Plateau, Niger, and Benue States. It called on the Federal Government to respond swiftly to protect lives and property, warning that insecurity remained a pressing national issue.

The meeting ended with expressions of gratitude to the people and government of Zamfara State for their hospitality. The governors also commiserated with the state over the death of the Emir of Gusau and extended condolences to Oyo State following the loss of traditional rulers.
