NNPP To Decide On 2027 Strategy At August NEC Meeting

The New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) has announced that it will take key decisions about its role in the 2027 general elections during its national executive council meeting scheduled for August 28.

The party disclosed this in a statement on Tuesday, noting that the gathering will focus on internal reforms and its future political direction. Among the agenda items are preparations for upcoming congresses, the national convention, review of recent by-elections, and a fresh mobilisation drive to expand membership across the country.

According to the party, the meeting will also consider ongoing constitutional amendments within NNPP, which it said are necessary to strengthen internal democracy and ensure accountability.

While speculation has continued over the party’s possible role in the next presidential race, NNPP clarified that no decision has been made yet. The leadership stressed that politics is constantly evolving and that its choices must be guided by the values on which the party was built.

Three options are currently on the table for the party: entering into an alliance or coalition, contesting the 2027 elections under its own banner, or backing President Bola Tinubu for a second term. Party leaders said these possibilities will be debated at the NEC meeting before a final resolution is reached.

Members have been urged to remain patient and allow the leadership to weigh all options carefully. The party assured that whatever decision is taken will reflect the broader interest of Nigerians and the vision of the NNPP.

In the meantime, the party is encouraging its members to take part in the ongoing continuous voter registration exercise and prepare for the nationwide mobilisation campaign aimed at bringing in new supporters ahead of 2027.
