The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has secured the conviction of three internet fraudsters arrested at a hotel within the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library (OOPL) complex in Abeokuta.

The convicts — Adewale Adewole Adenekan, Oyatokun Damilola Qudus, and Adisa Okikiade — were arraigned before Justice Dehinde Dipeolu of the Federal High Court, Lagos, sitting as a vacation judge, and pleaded guilty to separate cybercrime charges.

Adenekan admitted to the offence and confirmed restitution of N200,000. An iPhone 14 Pro Max tendered by the EFCC was accepted as evidence. He was sentenced to one month in prison with an option of a N300,000 fine.

Qudus, who also pleaded guilty, received the same sentence — one month imprisonment with a N300,000 fine option. Okikiade was convicted on a single count and given the option of a fine after pleading guilty.
According to the charges, the convicts impersonated foreigners online using fake identities on Google and Instagram to defraud unsuspecting victims, in violation of Section 22 of the Cybercrimes (Prohibition, Prevention, Etc.) Act, 2015.
Their conviction follows a similar ruling on August 15, when Justice Dipeolu sentenced three other internet fraudsters — Isaac Akinwale, Ibrahim Azeez Olatunji, and Habeeb Oladipupo Oshundairo — who were also among 93 suspects arrested by EFCC operatives at the OOPL hotel.
One other suspect from that batch pleaded not guilty and remains in custody.
