Labour Party National Chairman Julius Abure has rejected Peter Obi’s call for members to back the African Democratic Congress in Saturday’s bye-elections, urging supporters to vote for Labour Party candidates instead.

Obi had advised members to support ADC candidates after the Independent National Electoral Commission left LP off the ballot in some areas. He made particular reference to Anambra State, where the ADC candidate is the widow of a slain state lawmaker.

He criticised Obi for moving between political parties and claimed the former presidential candidate’s actions had caused the crisis he now cites as a reason to withdraw support from the party. Abure also linked Obi and Otti to a controversial stakeholders’ meeting in Umuahia last year, which he described as illegal.
Despite the reported INEC exclusion, Abure insisted the Labour Party remains on the ballot and has followed all legal steps to ensure its participation. He called on members to remain focused and to turn out in large numbers to vote for the party’s candidates in all states holding bye-elections.
