The Ogun State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party has dismissed claims that it endorsed the All Progressives Congress for the August 16 House of Representatives bye-election in Remo Federal Constituency.

The seat became vacant following the death of Hon. Adewunmi Onanuga, the Deputy Chief Whip of the House, in January. The constituency covers Remo North, Ikenne, and Sagamu local governments.

In a statement released Tuesday, PDP Publicity Secretary Kayode Adebayo described reports of the party’s alleged support for the APC as “false and misleading.” He accused APC supporters of spreading lies on social media to manipulate public opinion.

Adebayo clarified that while the PDP recently endorsed President Bola Tinubu for re-election in 2027 to support the South’s continued hold on power, this does not mean the party has collapsed its structures or withdrawn support for its own candidates.

He urged Ogun residents not to confuse the party’s national position with local political dynamics. “Our support for Tinubu in 2027 does not translate to endorsing the APC’s performance in Ogun State, which we have consistently criticized,” he said.
He also reminded the public of Governor Dapo Abiodun’s weak performance in the 2023 general elections, noting that he lost his polling unit and ward to the PDP despite Tinubu’s victory in the state.
The PDP campaign flag-off, held Monday in Sagamu, was led by key party leaders including National Vice Chairman Kamorudeen Ajisafe, Ogun State Chairman Abayomi Tella, and 2023 governorship candidate Oladipupo Adebutu.
Adebayo warned the ruling party against attempting to use Tinubu’s name to sway voters in the bye-election. “The election is local and has nothing to do with Tinubu’s 2027 ambitions,” he said.
