Aiyedatiwa Disbands Campaign Groups in Ondo For Tinubu 2027

Ondo State Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa has disbanded all independent campaign groups supporting President Bola Tinubu’s re-election and launched a unified platform, “Ondo State for Tinubu 2027.”

Groups affected by the move include the Grassroots Movement for Tinubu, the Asiwaju Mandate Group, and the PBAT Continuity Project, which had been operating separately to drum up support for the president’s second-term bid.

At an emergency meeting with state APC leaders held at the Government House in Akure over the weekend, Aiyedatiwa announced the new umbrella body and directed all pro-Tinubu movements to align under it.

The governor’s move is seen as a calculated attempt to consolidate political control and limit the influence of other power blocs ahead of the 2027 general elections and the 2028 governorship race in the state.

Party insiders revealed that Aiyedatiwa’s inner circle was concerned about key party figures using the independent groups to build personal political capital, possibly positioning themselves for a future challenge to his leadership.

“This was a political coup,” a senior aide said. “The governor moved quickly to neutralize any hidden agenda against him beyond the 2027 elections.”

Governor Aiyedatiwa told party leaders that the meeting was aimed at replicating the structure of the APC National Caucus at the state level and strengthening unity ahead of the next election cycle.

He emphasized that all campaign efforts must now be coordinated under the central party leadership and said the new unified structure would help deliver overwhelming victory for Tinubu in the South-West.

“There’s no governorship election here in 2027. Our full focus must be on mobilising for the president,” he said.

The meeting ended with the unanimous endorsement of Tinubu’s re-election and the formal adoption of the “Ondo State for Tinubu 2027” campaign body.

The Secretary to the State Government, Dr Taiwo Fasoranti, and the APC State Secretary, Mrs Roseline Okafor, were appointed to oversee the operations of the new structure.

Attendees included the Deputy Governor Dr Olayide Adelami, serving and former senators, members of the House of Representatives, ex-speakers, and other top APC figures in Ondo.
