C&S Leaders Push For Fair Constitution Reform

Clerics from the Cherubim and Seraphim Church have called on the Federal Government to ensure that the ongoing constitution review process is fair, truthful, and open to all voices across Nigeria.

Their call came during the seventh edition of the Celebrating Seraphs Awards held in Lagos on Sunday.

The issue came into focus after the National Assembly announced plans to begin another round of constitutional amendments, citing the rising number of bills submitted for review. This has sparked renewed public interest, especially from religious and civic groups urging for meaningful reform that addresses long-standing national issues.

During the event, the Conference Secretary-General of the Cherubim and Seraphim Movement Church Worldwide, Anthony Samaye, urged leaders to approach the amendment process with sincerity. He said Nigeria’s political framework needed urgent fixing, and only an honest effort at restructuring could bring justice and fairness to all parts of the country. He likened the situation to a marriage that needs occasional re-evaluation, adding that real change will only happen if leaders stay true to themselves and the future of the country.

Also speaking at the gathering, Senior Advocate of Nigeria and chairman of the event, Olusegun Fabunmi, called on the government to revisit the 2014 National Conference report. He described the conference as a well-rounded representation of all regions and groups in Nigeria, noting that its recommendations offered a strong foundation for both unity and reform. According to him, the report already contains workable ideas that can solve many constitutional problems without starting from scratch.

Fabunmi stressed that beyond just making changes through the National Assembly, there should be wider input from the people themselves, since the constitution belongs to the citizens. He argued that popular involvement would make the process more credible and acceptable across the country.

The event also celebrated outstanding members of the Cherubim and Seraphim Church who have made notable contributions to society. Organised by the AEGIS Aid Foundation, the award aims to recognise excellence within the church and beyond. This year, Seraph Jude Obiwuru from the Eternal Sacred Order of the Cherubim and Seraphim (ESOCS) received the Most Outstanding Seraph Award for his service.

The occasion served as both a celebration of achievements and a moment to reflect on national concerns. With discussions about constitutional change gaining momentum, voices from civil and religious bodies like the C&S Church add weight to calls for an open, inclusive, and honest reform process.
