Osun PDP Backs Tinubu And Adeleke For Upcoming Elections

The Peoples Democratic Party in Osun State has officially declared its support for the re-election of President Bola Tinubu in 2027 and Governor Ademola Adeleke in the 2026 governorship race, marking a rare show of cross-party endorsement at the state level.

This decision was made public through a communiqué released after a closed-door stakeholders’ meeting held at the Government House in Osogbo. The statement, signed by key party figures including Governor Adeleke, former Governor Olagunsoye Oyinlola, PDP state chairman Sunday Bisi, Senator Lere Oyewumi, and 24 others, was distributed to journalists by the governor’s spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed.

The meeting came amid swirling rumours of a potential defection by Adeleke to the All Progressives Congress. The party clarified that the governor would remain in the PDP, a position reportedly influenced by strong internal opposition to any such move and harsh public criticism from APC members. Stakeholders condemned what they described as unfounded attacks on Adeleke by members of the APC, especially on television and social media.

According to the communiqué, PDP leaders reaffirmed their full backing of Adeleke’s leadership and pledged to support his second-term bid under the PDP banner. They also cited Osun’s deep ties to President Tinubu, noting that the President hails from the state ancestrally, a factor that played a role in the party’s unusual decision to endorse him despite political differences.

The PDP leadership in Osun was tasked with sharing this resolution across all party structures in the state to ensure unity and alignment ahead of the coming elections. The governor was also encouraged to continue focusing on delivering his administration’s Five-Point Agenda without distraction.

The dual endorsement signals a strategic shift in Osun politics, where political loyalties are increasingly shaped by local dynamics rather than strict party lines. As the elections draw closer, the move is expected to spark conversations across party ranks both within and outside the state.
