Former Taraba State governorship aspirant, Professor Jerome Nyameh, has resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) after 25 years of membership.

In a resignation letter dated July 18 and addressed to the PDP chairman in Zing Local Government Area, Nyameh said the decision followed wide consultations and concerns raised by his supporters across the state’s 168 wards.

He cited internal crises and unresolved divisions in the party as key reasons for his exit.

“I wish to formally tender my resignation as a member of the PDP with immediate effect,” he wrote, adding that many of his supporters had urged him to leave amid fear of the unknown.

Nyameh, who was the runner-up in the PDP governorship primaries ahead of the 2023 election, had previously called for unity and transparency within the party. The ticket eventually went to Kefas Agbu, who is now the state governor.
Despite his departure, Nyameh pledged continued commitment to the development of Taraba and the country.
“My passion and vision for a better Taraba remain strong, and will guide my next steps, by God’s grace,” he said.
He has not yet revealed his next political move or whether he plans to join another party ahead of the 2027 elections.
