Okwuosa Wins APC Ticket for Anambra South Senate Bye-Election

Azuka Okwuosa has emerged as the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for the upcoming Anambra South senatorial bye-election scheduled for August 16, 2025.

Okwuosa defeated Dr. Obinna Uzor in a keenly contested primary, securing 470 votes against Uzor’s 57. The election, overseen by a seven-member committee led by Chief Henry Ikoh, recorded 594 delegates and 22 invalid votes.

The bye-election is being held to replace the late Senator Ifeanyi Ubah, who died last year in the United Kingdom.

Chief Ikoh, who chaired the election committee, declared the outcome official, stating that the exercise was peaceful and monitored by INEC, security agencies, and the media.

Reacting to his victory, Okwuosa expressed gratitude to delegates but noted that the moment came with mixed emotions due to the circumstances surrounding the vacancy. “Ifeanyi Ubah was a great senator. I see this as a challenge to continue from where he stopped,” he said.

Born in Jos in 1959, Okwuosa has had a long political career across various parties, including APGA and PDP, before settling with the APC. He previously served as chairman of Nnewi North LGA, commissioner for works and transport, and Secretary-General of the South-East Development Initiative.

A respected political figure in Anambra, Okwuosa is known for his calm approach to conflict and efforts to promote unity within the party.
