Vice President Kashim Shettima has arrived in London to accompany the body of former President Muhammadu Buhari back to Nigeria following his death on Sunday.
Shettima’s arrival comes on the directive of President Bola Tinubu, who earlier ordered that full state honours be accorded to the late leader.
Buhari, 82, died at a London clinic after a prolonged illness. His body is expected to be flown back to Nigeria in the coming days for burial in accordance with Islamic rites.
The Vice President is joined by the Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila, and other top government officials as arrangements continue for the return of the late president’s remains.
Flags are flying at half-staff across Nigeria, and a special Federal Executive Council session has been scheduled for Tuesday to honour the late statesman.
