Tinubu Focused On Reforms Not Opposition Moves

Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, has said President Bola Tinubu remains fully focused on delivering key reforms and will not be distracted by political maneuvering ahead of the 2027 elections.

His statement comes amid growing interest in the opposition coalition recently unveiled under the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

In a statement issued Wednesday, Idris described the president’s focus as unwavering, despite the noise surrounding the emergence of a new political alliance by prominent opposition leaders. He said the administration is concentrating on its economic and developmental agenda, as mandated by Nigerian voters in the 2023 elections.

Idris acknowledged the right of all citizens to freely associate and participate in the political process. However, he maintained that the government’s priority is governance, not political distractions. He said President Tinubu is moving forward with initiatives aimed at economic recovery, national stability, and inclusive development.

The minister listed areas where he said progress is being recorded under Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda. He noted improvements in tackling oil theft, renewed investor interest in the energy sector, reduced inflationary pressure, and a more stable naira. According to him, these changes reflect a growing return of confidence in the Nigerian economy.

Idris also pointed to ongoing social and economic interventions, such as the student loan programme, expansion of consumer credit, nationwide CNG vehicle conversions, and infrastructure upgrades as part of the administration’s commitment to improving lives.

He cited the recent passage of four major tax reform bills into law, describing them as a historic step toward rebuilding the country’s fiscal structure. The reforms, scheduled for implementation from 2026, are expected to enhance growth for households and businesses alike. He added that Tinubu also launched Nigeria’s largest-ever agricultural mechanisation initiative under the Renewed Hope programme, aimed at boosting food security.

Addressing the opposition’s criticism, Idris said some of the figures backing the ADC coalition are attempting to shift attention from the government’s achievements. He claimed they are more interested in power plays than in genuine development, and urged Nigerians to look beyond political noise and focus on the real changes happening across the country.

As political campaigns begin to stir ahead of the next general election, the Tinubu administration has made it clear that its gaze is fixed on economic reforms and national stability rather than opposition coalitions.
