Taiwan Commends Tinubu for Strengthening Global Ties with Saint Lucia

The Taiwanese government has praised Nigerian President Bola Tinubu following his diplomatic visit to Saint Lucia, describing it as a significant step in elevating Nigeria’s international standing.

The visit, which saw Tinubu conferred with the title of Knight Commander of the Order of Saint Lucia, was acknowledged as a powerful gesture that reflects Nigeria’s expanding influence across the global stage.

In a statement released by Taiwan’s Representative and Head of Mission to Nigeria, Mr. Andy Liu, the island nation lauded the Nigerian president’s efforts in building stronger bonds between Africa and the Caribbean. According to Liu, Tinubu’s outreach represents more than a ceremonial act—it signals Nigeria’s rising status in international diplomacy under his leadership.

Liu noted that the visit aligns with Taiwan’s longstanding relationship with Saint Lucia and other Caribbean nations such as Haiti, St Vincent and the Grenadines, and St Kitts and Nevis. These partnerships, he said, have been cultivated over years of cooperation in healthcare, agriculture, education, youth and women empowerment, and sustainable development.

The Taiwanese envoy expressed hope that Nigeria’s engagement with Saint Lucia would open doors for deeper humanitarian and economic partnerships across the Atlantic. He mentioned that Taiwan has already worked closely with Saint Lucia on a number of development projects, some of which may have been showcased during Tinubu’s tour of the country.

Looking ahead, Liu said Taiwan is willing to partner with Nigeria in a wide range of sectors. He pointed to Taiwan’s experience in technology, innovation, and sustainable growth as key assets that could complement Nigeria’s national development goals. He also encouraged the Nigerian government to explore closer collaboration with Taiwan, similar to the productive relationships Taiwan shares with other Caribbean allies.

Liu concluded by affirming that Taiwan remains open to a strong, mutually beneficial relationship with Nigeria, one that could promote prosperity and shared progress on the international stage.
