Wike’s Aide Blames PDP’s Woes on Greed and Power Hunger, Slams Bolaji Abdullahi

The Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, Lere Olayinka, has blamed the misfortunes of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on what he described as the greed and desperation for power by individuals like Malam Bolaji Abdullahi.

Olayinka made this known in a statement signed on Friday while reacting to recent comments made by Abdullahi, who is the interim spokesperson of the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

Abdullahi had accused Wike of playing a role in the downfall of the PDP, once regarded as one of Africa’s most dominant political parties.

In his response, Olayinka said Abdullahi and his associates in the newly formed opposition coalition were driven by hunger for power and personal ambition rather than genuine concern for the welfare of Nigerians.

He questioned Abdullahi’s political journey, asking if Wike was also responsible for his earlier exit from the PDP in 2014.

Olayinka suggested Abdullahi’s decision to dump the party then had more to do with his falling out with his political mentor, Senator Bukola Saraki, than any influence from Wike.

Olayinka further accused Abdullahi of political inconsistency, pointing to his departure from the PDP while serving as a minister under former President Goodluck Jonathan and later leaving the APC when his ambitions were no longer being fulfilled.

He also recalled Abdullahi’s unsuccessful attempts to secure electoral victories in Kwara State, stating that despite occupying various positions, the people of the state did not trust him with the PDP governorship ticket or a Senate seat.

Olayinka dismissed Abdullahi’s claim that their coalition was aimed at saving Nigeria’s democracy, describing it as dishonest.

He said the coalition was made up of politicians who had long histories of political betrayal and failure, including Atiku Abubakar, Nasir El-Rufai, Rotimi Amaechi, and Dino Melaye.

According to him, the group was more focused on grabbing power for selfish reasons than genuinely rescuing the country, and he warned that Nigerians would not be deceived.
