Two senators from Osun State, elected under the Peoples Democratic Party, have publicly thrown their weight behind President Bola Tinubu’s bid for a second term in office, drawing praise from the state’s chapter of the All Progressives Congress.

The senators, Adenigba Fadahunsi representing Osun East, and Olubiyi Fadeyi of Osun Central, made their position known during a meeting with the president in Abuja. The development stirred swift reactions from the Osun APC, which described their decision as proof of Tinubu’s rising popularity beyond party lines.

Their support is rooted in what they described as impactful federal interventions in their constituencies. Fadeyi pointed to projects such as the new Federal University of Agriculture and Development Studies in Iragbiji and major upgrades in the power sector, including a 300MVA transformer at Osogbo and a 2x60MVA substation in Ila-Orangun. He also mentioned the president’s promise to elevate the Nigeria Police Training School in Ila-Orangun to academy status, aimed at serving the South-West.

Fadahunsi, on the other hand, highlighted infrastructure development, with special reference to the Ibadan–Ilesa Expressway, a vital economic route. He also cited planned federal institutions including a school of nursing in Ijebu-Jesa, an orthopaedic hospital in Obokun, and a neuro-psychiatric facility in Ile-Ife, all said to have received backing from Tinubu.
The APC in Osun, through its spokesperson Kola Olabisi, responded by applauding the senators for what it called a patriotic step. The party linked their support to the positive impact of Tinubu’s Renewed Hope agenda. According to Olabisi, the APC remains open to new members and would welcome the senators if they choose to switch allegiance.
He stated that there is no reason to block entry into the party, as its record is attracting attention from even political opponents. The party also used the moment to reinforce its confidence ahead of future elections, saying its popularity is growing steadily.
The senators’ move could influence political alignment in Osun ahead of 2027, especially if more PDP members choose to follow suit. It also points to possible cracks within the opposition, as ruling party policies gain support across political divides.
