Northeast Youths Urge Tinubu To Review NSA Office After Service Chiefs’ Removal

The Coalition of Northeast Youth Group Leaders has commended President Bola Tinubu for removing Nigeria’s Service Chiefs but said the ongoing security reform will remain incomplete without a review of the Office of the National Security Adviser (NSA).

In a statement signed by the coalition’s chairman, Comrade Mohammed Grema Adamu, the group described the President’s action as a courageous move toward restoring discipline and accountability in the armed forces. However, it urged Tinubu to extend the shake-up to the NSA’s office to ensure transparency and better coordination within the nation’s security system.

The coalition said genuine reform must go beyond changing military heads to include a thorough audit of all offices linked to national security. It called for a review of the performance and structure of the NSA, adding that such an assessment would strengthen public trust and improve operational efficiency.

According to the group, national security institutions should undergo regular evaluations to sustain accountability and constitutional loyalty. It also demanded a full audit of recent operations under the NSA, saying reforms must be guided by due process and the national interest.

The coalition noted that the President’s decision reflected the kind of decisive leadership Nigerians have long desired and urged him to consolidate his efforts by cleansing the security system of inefficiency.

It also called for closer collaboration between the Presidency and civil society organisations in the North-East to make sure citizens’ voices are part of the ongoing reform process.

The group warned that if there was no visible response or engagement within seven days, it would mobilise peaceful demonstrations to demand accountability and good governance.
