EFCC Probes Two Travellers Over Undeclared Foreign Currency At Lagos Airport

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has launched an investigation into two travellers, Mamud Nasidi and Yahaya Nasidi, who were arrested for allegedly failing to declare large sums of foreign currency at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos.

According to EFCC spokesperson Dele Oyewale, the suspects were caught with $6,180 and £53,415 during a routine check by Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) officials on Saturday, October 11, 2025.

The travellers had just arrived from Dubai via Addis Ababa and were scheduled to board a local flight to Abuja when they were intercepted.

They were first detained by the Department of State Services (DSS) before being handed over to the EFCC’s Lagos Zonal Directorate 2 for further investigation and possible prosecution.

Three mobile phones were also recovered from the suspects.

Oyewale said the suspects and the seized items were received by CSE Margaret Lamai on behalf of Acting Zonal Director, ACE1 Ahmed Ghali.
