Arise News Television has announced the burial plans for its late correspondent, anchor, and producer, Somtochukwu Christelle Maduagwu, who was killed during a violent robbery at her home in Abuja.

According to the station, an evening of tributes will hold on Sunday, October 12, 2025, at the THISDAY Dome in Abuja. This will be followed by a service of songs on Wednesday, October 15, at the Corpus Christi Cathedral on Kaduna Street, Port Harcourt, Rivers State.

The final funeral rites will take place on Saturday, October 18, at St. Theresa Catholic Church, Agulu, Anambra State, where a funeral mass will precede her interment.

Somtochukwu, fondly called “Sommie” by colleagues, died on September 29 after a group of armed robbers invaded her apartment complex in the Gishiri area of Abuja. Reports indicated that about 14 robbers attacked the building around 3:30 a.m., killing Maduagwu and a security guard, Mr. Barnabas Danlami.
Eyewitness accounts revealed that she attempted to escape through her window during the chaos but fell and sustained fatal injuries.

The Federal Capital Territory Police Command confirmed the arrest of 12 suspects linked to the attack following a joint operation led by ACP Victor Godfrey and the Scorpion Squad. The arrests were made possible through digital and forensic tracking by Giga Forensics.
Police identified the suspects as Shamsudeen Hassan, Hassan Isah, Abubakar Alkamu, Sani Sirajo, Mashkur Jamilu, Suleiman Badamasi, Abdul Salam Saleh, Zaharadeen Muhammad, Musa Adamu, Sumayya Mohammed, Isah Abdulrahman, and Musa Umar.
Investigations showed that the robbers stole valuables, including a white Honda CR-V, mobile phones, and cash. The suspects also confessed to sharing N200,000 each from the stolen proceeds.
Recovered items from the gang included a fabricated AK-47 rifle, a locally made pistol, a pump-action gun, ammunition, knives, and phones belonging to the victims.
The police said the arrested gang members had confessed to their roles in the attack and other robberies across Abuja. Meanwhile, friends, colleagues, and family members continue to mourn Somtochukwu, remembering her as a passionate journalist and kind-hearted professional whose life was cut short in her prime.
